The Vision
When a Southport family planned a major home extension, they saw an opportunity to create something truly special—a bespoke leisure space centred around a full-size bowling lane. This wasn’t about replicating a commercial bowling alley; it was about crafting a unique family entertainment area that would become the heart of their home.
The challenge extended beyond the bowling installation itself. The family wanted MJH Events to collaborate with their architect from the earliest design stages, ensuring the bowling infrastructure integrated seamlessly with the extension’s architecture. They envisioned a space where bowling, cinema, and socialising would flow together naturally.
The Solution
MJH Events took a truly collaborative approach, working directly with the family’s architect throughout the design and construction process. Our involvement began at the planning stage, advising on structural requirements, spatial dimensions, and technical specifications to ensure the extension would perfectly accommodate a full-size bowling lane.
We installed a single-lane system with full string pinsetter technology, LED lighting, automatic bumpers, precision ball returns, and complete scoring systems. What made this project particularly unique was our role in designing and constructing the LED wall that runs throughout the leisure space. This bespoke lighting feature creates a cohesive visual experience, linking the bowling area with the cinema and social spaces—transforming the environment from daytime family fun to sophisticated evening entertainment.
Our architectural collaboration ensured every technical requirement was planned in advance—proper ceiling heights, adequate approach space, ventilation, power distribution, and acoustic considerations. By working alongside the architect and homeowners, we avoided the compromises that often occur when bowling is retrofitted into existing spaces.
The Results
The completed extension has become exactly what the family dreamed of—a unique leisure space that seamlessly integrates bowling with cinema and social areas. The single full-size lane provides authentic bowling performance while the surrounding space accommodates comfortable seating, viewing areas, and the cinema setup.
